Dedicated to Brandy Baltzell.
This is possibly one of my all-time favorite movies. It’s based on a book, has great music, Gene Wilder is in it and it’s about CANDY! What child wouldn’t love this movie?! Roald Dahl knew exactly what he was doing when we wrote the book.
The following is one of my favorite scenes and one my friend Brandy and I often quote. After Augustus Gloop falls into the chocolate river and gets sucked up through the pipe, the rest of the group continues with the tour. The river boat takes them into a strange, dark ambiguous tunnel…
Round the world and home again,
That’s the sailor’s way!
Faster faster, faster faster!
There’s no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going.
There’s no knowing where we’re rowing
Or which way the river’s flowing.
Is it raining, is it snowing?
Is a hurricane a-blowing?
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing.
Are the fires of Hell a-glowing?
Is the grisly reaper mowing?
Yes, the danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing.
And they’re certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing.
I titled the post as is because what some people find strange, others find fun. That comforts me in an odd way. Psychedelia is creative, inspiring for me. This is why I muddle in art, music and lost eras; These mediums aren’t contemporary, or the norm. Yet, what is the norm?
