Dedicated to LeAnna Simmons. I found this link on her Facebook page.
Esperanza Spalding is a new age jazz musician. The upright bass is her primary instrument, but she first learned the ways of oboe and clarinet before high school. She was also one of the youngest professors hired at Berklee College of Music immediately after she graduated college.
Oh yeah, and she sings while playing bass. :O
Jazz is very under-appreciated in current popular music. I don’t think people understand it. I once heard my friend’s father say, “Jazz is the most incomprehensive bull shit I’ve ever heard!” Jazz is complex to the ear and feared by ignorant ears.
I love to hear musicians like Esperanza Spalding thriving in their field. She’s stunning.
