“Bear In The Attic” by Kingsfoil

Taken at Cherry Lane in York, Pa

When love is just a broken soul’s chance to heal,
No matter what you feel for me,
I cannot be your chance, my dear.
I fear the unknown.

I’m like a child, afraid of climbing these stairs,
Scared of the dark and the demons that aren’t even there tonight.
I am afraid of the bed I’ve made.

Help me get rid of this bear in the attic,
Or just the addict in me.

Fear is building.
You’re like a child, scared but willing
To believe the tales you’re telling.
This may be your chance, my dear.
Our secrets threaten to take our lives by storm.
I’m guessin’ that you are in the same boat stressin’,
Dreadin’ when the night will come.

I’m like a child, afraid of climbing these stairs,
Scared of the dark and the demons that aren’t even there tonight.
I am afraid of the bed I’ve made.

Help me get rid of this bear in the attic,
Or just the addict in me.
This bear in the attic isn’t a habit, it’s just a recurring dream, dream.

I lie awake, a sleeping fake.
I feel the shadows moving in the hall with every step I take.
I lie awake, no drugs to take.

Help me get rid of this bear in the attic,
Or just the addict in me, me.

I will leave the lights on, I will leave the lights on at home.
I will spend a lifetime, I will spend a lifetime…
I will leave the lights on, I will leave the lights on at home.
Before I spend a lifetime, before I spend a lifetime alone.

Whatever your “bear in the attic” is, get rid of it! Everyone carries troubles around that aren’t needed. The smallest dilemmas can tear up a person, inside and out.

I’m reading a book about forgiveness. It’s teachings entail that one must forgive himself or herself before one can forgive another. Lay burdens down to rest. Guilt can be avoided if one learns to forgive oneself. The book also teaches that resistance to forgive can come from family difficulties with forgiveness.

My personal view on self-help books were that I would never need them. Why should someone read a book to find help? Life will work itself out. However, everyone finds a different way to solve problems. (Self-help books also explore human psychology in depth.) The “life will work itself out” attitude is usually an immature view, a way for individuals to bury their pain. Releasing pain is rewarding, trust me.
