Lyrics of the Week – Week 3

Dedicated to local bands. They all start somewhere.

“Escape” by Velvet Transit

Written by Ping Mccuthison

Ping and Emily of Velvet Transit

Take me with you.
(at)the speed of sound
Keep me with you
When we go down
I swear we’ll make it
Out of this town.
They won’t break us
No not this time.

Leave the poison. Take the guns.
Leave the knives. Set the bombs.
Leave the talons. Take the wings.
Let’s fly away.

Hold me tight
Don’t let go.
Frightened are you.
The darkness grows.
The feelings sinking
Inside the soul
Let’s find a place
We won’t grow old

Leave the poison. Take the guns.
Leave the knives. Set the bombs.
Leave the talons. Take the wings.
Let’s fly away.

(No one) –knows-.

Leave the poison. Take the guns.
Leave the knives. Set the bombs.
Leave the talons. Take the wings.
Let’s fly away.

This is a song by a local Memphis band. The lyrics are self-explanatory: Escape. The writer has told me numerous times of his desire to escape Memphis. Outsiders see Memphis as a purely music-oriented city, but for some, dreams are brewing outside the city. Maybe Austin, TX?

Take a listen!!
